For International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2016, Innovate Finance had their ‘Celebrating Women in Fintech — and Closing the Gender Gap’ Event.
Our own CEO of Global Invest Her, Anne Ravanona, was a speaker along with Viola Llewellyn, CEO of Ovamba, Liz Lumley of Startupbootcamp, Claire Calmejane, Director of Innovation at Lloyds Banking Group, Sharon Lewis, Head of Global Finance Practice of Hogan Lovells, and a few others. They discussed their perspectives on the potential of FinTech and focused on the important role women have as leaders, entrepreneurs and strategists to shape the future of FinTech. In addition, the event had five women pitching their startup ideas.
Why was it important?
The main message of the event was that FinTech is a bridge and women are still on an island, isolated from some of its potential. FinTech is changing the world, and the participants at the event called for more inclusion and support for women in the sector to close the gender gap. Anne Ravanona’s statistics suggests that closing the gender gap in credit can increase global GDP by 12%.
Innovate Finance has highlighted how women can enable the growth of the future of FinTech in its publication of 21 female founders and CEOs. We are very proud of our own CEO Anne Ravanona for being featured in this publication. Innovate Finance also backs women in Fintech in its vision for UK FinTech 2020.
